  • Question

  • I am exploring the possibility of taking Exam 70-632 and have some questions.  The company that I work for currently uses MS Project 2003 and I am an experienced user and PMP.  Would I need to upgrade to 2007 in order to take and pass the exam?  Also, since MS Project 2010 has been released is there much point in taking the exam?

  • Hi David,

2003 to 2007 was a major upgrade so I wouldn’t take any exam without working on Project 2007 or 2010. Since you are not using 2007 as of yet, you can choose to upgrade to 2007 or 2010.

If I was you, I would upgrade to Project 2010 and take the 70-177 Exam. http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/Exam.aspx?ID=70-177&Locale=en-us

    Hope this is helpful.

  • Hi Rubel,

Exam 70-177 is for Project Server 2010 and not the Desktop. I have used the Desktop versions of Project 2003, 2007 & 2010 but not the Server of any of these. Since the Desktop exam of 2010 is not out yet, I was planning for 70-632. Could you pls advise..

    Regards, Gurpreet

  • You are correct Exam 77-178 (Managing Project 2010) which currently in development and will be offered by Certiport when it's ready.

In the meantime, if you are interested in taking 70-632, I would suggest you to purchase the Self-Paced Training Kit

  • Hi,

If you are looking to prepare for MCTS Exam 70-177: Microsoft Project Server 2010, Configuring, then the following books would be of helpful:

Microsoft Project 2010 Step by Step ISBN 9780735626959  (this book will also help beginners who are completely new to Project server)

Good luck in preparing for the exam.  If you use some other book, then do let us know.

If you are looking for classroom based training, then we can help you. We just launched project server 2010 course that will help you prepare for the MCTS Microsoft Project Server 2010, Configuring certification.   The course is for 3 days and we are offering it in EMEA.

    Good luck,

    Jay

  • A word of caution: Microsoft Project 2010 Step by Step (ISBN 9780735626959) does NOT cover Project Server; it only covers Project client software. I have this book and have completed all the exercises.

I'm confused why someone would recommend this as a prep guide for Project Server.
