Cannot acces WHS with name given my microsoft RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I have been given a name from microsoft https://XXXXXXXXXX.homerver.com when I type the address in I cant find my server.
When I type https://192.x.x.x I can find it, my windows firewall advises me not to connect unless I know the source I hit connect and there you I have I can remote operate the server and browse the shared folder.
Why cant I access it via the https/.homeserver.com name ? I have set my router to accept and forward the ports to my server.  I created an account with Open DNS and added my server name in there any ideas please?

  • Please try from somewhere other than home. Many consumer routers can't handle a loopback request.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • I will try, but its a bit difficult at the moment, where I work they have firewalls all over the place so that would be an unfair test.
Will pop to Mcdonnalds or somewhere like that and try and pick up a free wifi spot.
Is there any way I can check my router settings for this problem?

  • I have the same situation at home, but once I tried outside my home network I was able to connect.
I have similar issues at my work as well, with blocks in place where I can't attach to any of my computer or the server, but I can see and download files from the shares.

  • You could also ask a friend (or one of us) to check this for you - the name of the site is enough to get it up, if all is configured correctly, logging in is not necessary.
