quit rewriting my URL's!!! (aka why does it do that?) RRS feed

  • Question

  • i wanted to use WHS to host several websites and email servers but of course those functions dont work so i installed and vm with bridged networking (whs acts as a L2 switch) and even now i cant seem to let domain url's through.  probably easier to understand if I just show you.

    does NOT work

it's a bit perplexing to me.  if anyone could any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

    They all return varying errors.

Windows Home Server isn't designed for what you're trying to do with it. Running multiple web sites, running an email server, and running VMs on your server are all unsupported by Microsoft. That's not to say that they can't work, jsut that Microsoft didn't spend any time on making it easy, and they won't spend any time on making sure that type of modification continues to work in the future....

Have you considered Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008, which are designed for that use? Windows Home Server isn't a perfect fit for everyone.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
