The windows vista home premium product key you typed is invalid for activation RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello.  My HP Pavilion desktop pc had a mother board failure after three years.  I had the hard drive removed and put into a different pc - a dell - still my licensed installation of Vista, but now I'm getting a pop up saying I need to activate Windows and my product key is invalid - Vista was installed by the manufacturer on my HP PC but now this is a different mother board - I called HP support for help but they could not help me.  What can I do?

  • You cannot use a HP OEM Windows Vista license in a Dell computer and expect it to activate.  The license will only activate on the original HP computer it came with.  If you wish to use the hard drive, you’ll need to purchase a new Windows 7 Home Premium – Full Version and then upgrade.  Sorry, Windows Vista licenses are no longer sold by Microsoft.
