Can't Sign In From Mac after Restart

Question
-
I am having an issue with the Live Mesh client for Mac on two different laptops. Both of these laptops are encrypted using FileVault. When I initially setup the Mac client, I entered my username and password and the device name. The icon on the bar at the top turned black, and all my folders were listed in the menu. I added all of my mesh folders to each Mac, and it began working perfectly. However, if I ever close the Live Mesh client, or restart my mac, the next time I open the client, the icon at the top is grey, and the "sign in" option is greyed out. This is happening on both Macs. The only fix I have found is to delete the LiveMesh folder from the application support directory. This will cause the login window to be displayed again the next time the client is launched, and it usually is able to login successfully. Anybody having similar issues?Tuesday, December 9, 2008 2:45 AM

Ben...thanks for the suggestion, but did not help. I was finally able to get the client to allow me to log back in. I wiped out all keychain entries so that it would not have any stored usernames or passwords, and then I left everything unchecked about remembering usernames and passwords. I attached only 3 folders, and then after the next restart I can no longer log in. It is now crashing every time I try to open the client.

Hi Tim,
I'm sorry those suggestions did not help. Given that the client is now crashing on you, though, our developers would like to look at a fresh set of logs. If you could collect them and attach them to your existing bug, then let me know, I'll continue to work to find a solution for you.
Thanks,

Hi,
One of our developers has suggested trying the following: remove the folders, ~/Application\ Support/Live Mesh and ~/Application\ Support/Live Id, and try to sign in again.
Please let me know if that resolves the issue.
Thanks,

Thanks for checking with the developers. I deleted the LiveMesh and LiveID folder as specified. When I launched the Live Mesh client, I was prompted to authenticate, and then to add the device to to the mesh. I then had to re-attach all of my mesh folders to my desktop folders. This worked fine. However, the next time that I closed the mesh client, and restarted it, I was not able to sign-in (the option was greyed out). I have tried this on two different Macs with the same results.Wednesday, December 10, 2008 7:24 PM

Hi,
I'm sorry to hear that didn't resolve the issue. If you wouldn't mind collecting your Live Mesh logs (click on the Live Mesh icon in the upper right of the screen and select Collect Live Mesh Logs, which will put a .zip file on your desktop), our developers would like to take a closer look. Please open a bug through Connect (https://connect.microsoft.com/LiveMesh) and attach the .zip file. If you then post your Connect Feedback ID here, I'll follow up with the developers and let you know as soon as we learn anything.
Thanks,

Great! Thank you. I see the bug internally, and I've called our developers' attention to it. I will let you know as soon as I learn something.

Ben...thanks for your help. Just to update the issue. I can no longer sign-in on any of my Macs, even if I delete the LiveMesh and LiveID folders from "Application Support." When I launch the client, all options are greyed out, and then after a few minutes it will pop up an error that the application has quit unexpectedly. I am running "repair permissions" on my disk to see if this helps.

Hi Tim,
After looking at your logs, our developers have suggested the following: 1) stop using auto-sign-in (assuming you have been), and/or 2) reduce the number of folders you're trying to sync initially (from your logs it looks like you're trying to sync a lot of data at once - if you can get MOE to a “steady-state” then things might work better on start-up).
Please let me know if these suggestions help resolve the problem.
Thanks,

I am having a similar problem to the one described above and would like help. Should I write about it here or start a new thread?
I sync between a mac and PC. I am not able to sign in on the live mesh mac application. The icon is grayed out and does not allow sign in. I am not able to establish any new folders on the mac side. Existing folders continue to sync, though the live mesh app on the mac does not show any information. I can see that things are synced by going the the live mesh website. Also, I do not get any error messages on my mac as reported above. This has been going on for about 3 days. Thank you.
UPDATE 12/14: I repaired permissions and later quit and re-started live mesh. It is fully functional again.
UPDATE 12/15: The problem is back. I updated to the latest mac OS 10.5.6, restarted the computer, and the grayed-out mesh icon is back. At least the sync functions are still working and things are set up the way I want them.- Edited by extra5 Tuesday, December 16, 2008 4:48 AM Problem NOT solved

I'm seeing the same issue. Live Mesh doesn't crash on my Mac, but it's grayed out on the menu bar and I cannot sign in. The only way I'm able to make it work is to quit Live Mesh and restart it over and over again. Eventually, it will start normally. It usually takes 5-6 restarts.
I'm having this issue on 2 different Macs.
Let me know if I need to start I new thread about this...

Hi Graydon,
I'd suggest first taking a look at Tim's bug (https://connect.microsoft.com/LiveMesh/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=387554) and validating it if that sounds like the same problem you're having. If not then, yes, please do start a new thread (and I would suggest creating your own bug first - see here for instructions - and posting the link in the new thread).
Thanks,

I'm having this issue too. But, quitting live mesh and then restarting it does the trick for me. This is the latest version of live mesh on an upto date imac (osx 10.5.6).Wednesday, April 1, 2009 8:53 AM

It would probably be worth filing a bug report as you should not need to restart Live Mesh to get it working.
