Remote Access Setup | Need help with Port Forwarding RRS feed

  • Question

  • Windows XP
    HP MediaSmart EX470
    PowerPack 2

    My internet connection:
    EX470 > Linksys WRT310N > Linksys RT31P2 (voip router) > Linksys BEFCMU10 (Cable Modem) > Cable Internet

I am unable to set up the WHS for remote access.
I have setup a domain via Windows Live Custom Domains

On clicking [Details] under WHS>Remote Access > Domain Name , I get error messages on:
x Verifying your Website if accessible from the internet
x Verifying remote access is accessible from the internet

I believe I need to take care of 'port forwarding' thru all the Routers/Cable Modem.
I need some guidance on what I need to do for 'port forwarding'.

    Thank you.

  • Cascading private networks with NAT address ranges like you do with multiple rooters and the DSL modem is not supported through WHS remote access configuration.
The server should be located behind the first router, which is connected to the Internet, and the modem should be changed to bridged mode for getting Remote Access to work with Windows Home Server.

  • My recommendation is to reconfigure your network as follows: A) put your cable modem in passthrough mode (if it isn't already), and B) connect your VOIP router to one of the ports on your Linksys router.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
