Best training materials for the 70-642 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello all and thanks for any advice you can give me.  I'm in the early stages of prepping for the 70-642.  Passed the 70-640 about a year ago but haven't really been able to focus on other certs (not that I really want to anyway :) ) but I've been having some health problems and then I've been very busy at work.

With that being said, I've read the MS Press book for the 70-642 but now I heard there's additional topics for the exam such as direct access and more on ipv6.  Am I ok with with the original release of the ms press book for this exam or do I have to get the new revision.

Also, would you recommend trainsignal or cbt nugget videos or should I go with the e-learning (learning plan) that technet offers.  Anyway, just want to make the right decisions here.

Thanks very much for any assistance, recommendations you can give me.

  • I believe the content was updating to Windows Server 2008 R2 which could explain the additional topics.

What I usually do is take the content from http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exam.aspx?ID=70-642&locale=en-us#tab2 and then research each and every dot point via TechNet and Google.

  • The exam content has been updated to Windows Server 2008 R2. Microsoft Press has released the 2nd edition of their Self Paced Training Kit that now covers R2.

  • I would have a hard time reccomending the e-learning stuff from MS. The labs are buggy and generally not very challenging, the self testing very weak and not very representative of a real exam. Some section only have 2-3 questions. Not worth the money.

  • CBTNugget Videos are awesome if you get board of the book. I'm actually doing the 70-640 now, and have completed the 642. if you get board of reading (like myself) watch the nuggets to stay entertained and enjoy it. Plus the instructor on that particular exam is really good, so you will learn alot from him. Once you have watched a nugget read that part of the book, because it will be more of a pleasure to read since you already know it. But thats just me, being 20. Books don't amuse me too much :P

Good luck with your exam, and if you would like to discuss this more, add me up on skype :) my user name is: daf1oh1
