Migration from 2003 x86 to 2008 x64, new box question R2 OCS 2007... RRS feed

  • Question

  • We currently run OCS 2007 on its own box.. the application portion.. The sql data is on another box, which shouldnt affect this migration (2005 sql )..

My question is how i should go about getting to 2008 x64 server.. i have another box ready to roll with 2008 x64 server on it.

Can i simply "turn off" the old box.. go through the installation wizard for ocs 2007 R2 and specify our existing sql database and all will be good once the install is done..

    Or is it more complicated?

    Any thoughts?

  • You should actually install OCS 2007 R2 on the Windows 2008 box next to the OCS 2007 server.
For the Enterprise Edition you need a new SQL Instance on the SQL Server because both cannot be in the same SQL Instance

After you have the OCS 2007 R2 pool running move the users over.
This way you can first test your OCS 2007 R2 server completely before moving all users over to the new pool
Both pools should communicate automatically with each other
Keep in mind that certificates need to be trusted on either server, prefereably use an internal CA
