    My system is destroyed due to flood. I was using a Genuine Windows Xp professional before the flood. Now I have purchased a new system with higher configuration than the destroyed system. If i install my Genuine Windows Xp professional in my new system, do i get any "genuine problem"?????
    Now i am in a confusion please solve my confusion.

    Hello Prabhu,

      Very sorry to hear about the flood.

      If the XP you were using on the old computer came Pre-installed on that computer, then you will not be able to use it on the New Computer. Windows that come Pre-installed are know as OEM software and the licensing for OEM software only allows for it to be used on the first computer it was installed on.  Note there is OEM software that can be bought seperatly from a computer, that software also can only be used on the first PC it was installed on. You can tell if the software is OEM because it will be priced lower then Retail softare and won't come in a nice retail packaging (it should also clearly be labled as OEM)


      If the XP was purchased separately from the computer in a Retail package, then you will be able to use the XP on the new computer.  The Licensing terms for Retail software allows you to move the software to any computer you wish (as long as it's only installed on one computer at a time)
