After I upgraded from Vista, my new w7 os worked like a breeze for a month, then I started to get a black desktop with a message prompting me to activate and when I entered my number [xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx] it says it is invalid! Please help!
As requested I have run mgadiag.exe and pasted the report:

Thanks for your reply. This number was printed on the disk envelop. I entered this number when I first installed windows 7. I don't know whether it is a default key or not.
I am no expert but I think this is a default key (one that is entered by the system when you do not enter a physically key when installing windows - a key-less install).
So, as the grace time to activate has expired Windows has gone in to Reduced Functionality Mode.
Where did you acquire the media/disk?
Maybe wait until tomorrow (when MS will be monitoring the forum) for confirmation (or not, if I am mistaken in my analysis).- Proposed as answer by David. FModerator Monday, October 4, 2010 7:47 PM

Yes, that is a default key (*****-*****-TMVMJ-BBMRX-3MBMV) If someone sold you a copy of windows with that key then you need to talk to them and insist on a refund. Please see the buying software safely sticky on the indix of this forum (link provided below).

I think you should edit and remove the Product key from the post very quickly.
How did you acquire this key?
