Antivirus Pro 2009 malware RRS feed

  • Question

  • I seem to have acquired antivirus Pro 2009 malware while downloading a file this morning.  It has hosed my Norton - and continues to pop up annoying warnings of infection and wanting to download its own solution.  I did some homework on the web and found out about it - then tried to download your Windows Live OneCare.  It completed the download, then gave me error code # 0020-80070643.  Can you tell me what this is?    Thanks  John

  • You can see this KB article to resolve the 0020 error you encountered:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930162

However, you really need to resolve the infection problem first, before installing another a/v solution. Since you had Norton, and it may still be installed, it may be conflicting with the OneCare installation, too. If your Norton subscription is up to date, you probably should contact Norton for help with removal.

Alternatively, use one of the free online scanners to try and remove the infection:

    http://www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan/

    http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm

You'll also find a slew of threads in the antivirus and antispyware topic folders here from people who encountered this malware. Although most are sent to support, if they are using OneCare, there are links to solutions for removal of the infection.

I'll close with the standard response regarding an infection reported here:

If you are using Windows Live OneCare and you have been infected, but OneCare did not detect or cannot remove the malware, please contact support to report this and for help with removal.

If  you are not using Windows Live OneCare, you are off topic for this forum. This is not a general forum for viruses, spyware, or Windows Help. For help with spyware issues, you may want to try the forums here:
