I have Been Cheated - False Windows 7 on my laptop I want to go back to Vista RRS feed

  • Question

  • I had problems with my laptop which is on Vista, re this question I posted for help and never got a reply for;

    http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistahardware/thread/2f9e4ccd-8dec-4c18-9299-1f09db527e4c

    so I changed to my son's which I recently bought for him, which was supposed to have windows 7 on it, but it was W Vista. I saw on there at the bottom of the screen a message saying Windows 7 is not genuine.

    I went back to the store and they said it was a mistake and they would give me another one, which they did after they told me to go back later in the day, but I am getting the same error, so I have been cheated and they wont exchange it again.  I think they just gave me back the same laptop and did an illegal upgrade to W7, I ran the diagnotics as per your help thread and got this message;

    There is nothing more I can do about the store as I am a Brit living in the Dominican Republic and there are no guarantees or help to do something about this.

    I want to get rid of the illegal W7 and go back to Vista, how do I do this please?  I am not very tech with computers.  Can someone also answer my first question about the problems in my laptop in the link above so I can go back to using it and return this one to my son when the W7 problem is resolved  .I don;t have a vista disc and I expect I would not be able to get one here.

    Thank you.

    Yep - your store gave you a laptop with a hacked, non-genuine copy of Windows 7 installed.
    I suggest that you inform them that unless you get satisfaction, you'll be reporting them to MS, the police, and the local trading standards people to ensure that they never do business again. Once you've got either a refund, or a proper valid system, then report them anyhow.
    Your Office installation is likewise non-genuine.

    Please read the Blocked Keys sticky at the head of this forum, and the Buying Safely Online sticky - while not directly relevant to you situation, the remedial steps are very similar.
    To revert back to the original OS, you would have to use the Manufacturer's Recovery disks for that system - hopefully HP will be able to provide them a reasonable cost, if you don't already have a set.

  • Have you seen where I live?  The cops are just as corrupt I have no chance and there is no trading standards here, that is not how they work.  Is there no way I can download Vista?  I do not want this illegal copy of W7  Thanks for your help

  • Order Recovery Discs for Windows 7, Vista, or XP

    So that is the only way? not possible to download it? cos that package will probably get pinced too like a lot of stuff here if I order it from the US.

  • You can purchase and download Windows 7 and perform a "clean install".  You will need a "Full Version" license.  Example: Windows 7 Home Premium

    You'll also need to purchase a genuine version of  Microsoft Office 2010 since your installed copy of Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 is non-genuine.
