ERROR MESSAGE CONNECTING TO WHS FROM CLIENT RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I attempt to install the Connector Software on a client Computer I recieve the following Error Message:

Cannot connect the Computer to the Server because another software installation is in progress, or, the Computer has a restart pending.  Either complete the installation process, or, restart the Computer and try to connect again.

I have restarted both the client and the Server computers.  There are no installations going on either computer.  I currently have two client Computers on the Server and they are running fine and access the Server every day.  The Computer that I'm trying to connect is a new Notebook0 running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

    What is wrong?

Thank you for any assistance that you can give me.

    Vic

  • Did you do a search on this forum before posting? If you are using WHS 2011 try this:

To work around the pending reboot issue:
    1. Open Regedit
    2. Find the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager"
    3. Rename the "PendingFileRenameOperations" value to "PendingFileRenameOperations2"

If that works, you will probably find it had something to do with a previous Logitech Webcam installation.

  • This was exactly correct. It did in fact have something to do with a Logitech Webcam installation, and Phil's post solved the problem instantly. Fantastic.
