Live Mesh Remote Desktop & Drag n Drop problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,
I am using IE 8 beta 2 and when I click on connect to use the remote desktop feature of live mesh, It seems to be loading but then displays a red x at the top left (the same x that appears when a picture does not load) and then nothing happens.  Similarly, when I try to install the live desktop plug-in to enable drag and drop, it stays on the page that says "Please click on the installation bar at the top of page if you see one" and doesn't go anywhere from there, nor is there any installation bar at the top for me to click.
How do I install the live mesh desktop plug-in?

    Thanks!

Hey I tried what you said and it still does not work :(

    Hi,

Please go ahead and open a bug on Connect (instructions are in an Announcement at the top of the forums).  You may have hit a known issue with Live Mesh Remote Desktop in IE 8 beta 2, but we'll need to look at the logs to know for sure.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

  • I just tried installing both plugins on IE 8 Beta 2 (8.0.6001.18241 Update Version: Beta 2) and both installations worked - the Remove Desktop asked me to install "Live Mesh" (although it took a while for it to come up) and the Drag-and-Drop came up with the install bar.

Have you checked that IE is not set up to disallow downloading of components? Some places to check are Tools -> Internet Options -> Security Settings -> Download Signed Active X controls (should be "prompt"), Run Active X controls and plugins (should be "prompt" or "enabled") and others that are in a similar vein to these ones...

  • Hi, I have my IE security settings set to the default of medium-high.  I reset my IE 8 beta 2 including all of its security settings to default a couple of times and even then the drag and drop and remote desktop features are not working.  What else can I try to get them to install?
    Thanks!

  • I'm not sure - mine might work since I think I had the drag & drop installed on IE 7 and then installed the beta over that. That said, the remote desktop was never installed and now works.

This is very bad advice, but would help you pinpoint your problem - if you drop the IE 8 security settings to Low, just for that use, does it work?

Also, if you're using a proxy you could try to direct connect to the internet (if possible) to see if it's your proxy that is doing content level filtering.
