3 Subscriptions with a new Windows Live ID RRS feed

  • Question

  •

    Hi

I created a new Windows Live ID today and purchased 3 subscriptions for One Care for $49.95.

It appears that Microsoft has no problem with my new Windows Live ID, such as logging on to \

this chat, but I cannot activate the second PC's subscription to One Care with the new Windows

    Live ID.

How do I activate a trial installation with my new Windows Live ID?

    Thanks

  • Roger, did you purchase during activation on the 1st PC? Is it currently showing activated? If you open OneCare and click Help/About, does it show the Subscription ID as the LiveID you created?

When you try to activate on the other 2 PCs using the same LiveID and you say it does not accept the ID and password, is this the same LiveID used to originally activate on PC#1? If so, are you pasting the password into the form or typing it in? Is the password complex, meaning that it is longer than 8 characters or contains characters other than letters and numbers? If you are pasting the password, type it into the form. If it is a complex password, change it to a more simple password of 8 letters/numbers at http://account.live.com and try again. Once activated, you can change the password back to the complexity you desire.

If you continue to have problems, please contact support.

  • Additional Information-

I loaded 90 day trial versions on three PC for my Customer to try.

I purchased a 3 subscription on one of them today.

I cannot subscribe on the second PC because the activation WIzard will

not accept the Live.com email ID or password.  It does accept the Live ID on the

website.  I uninstalled One Care on the second PC and reinstalled using

the Live.com ID.  It still will not let me activate under the three subscription

    purchase.

I want to subscribe on a third PC that has a 90 day trial, also.

  • Hi Steve,

The original password was complex and many more characters than 8.

I changed it to another complex password with more than 8 letter and

special characters, upper and lower case (before I saw your reply).

I was able to subscribe all three PCs, even though one took a couple

    of attempts.

The Activation system seems to encourage complex passwords by

rating the proposed password as the potential customer enters it for

the first time.  The account management page has no problem with

the complex password but the activation system fails.

This is a bad design.  Most companies would fix a problem

with software that accepts money as a priority!    : )

In the middle of this subscription problem, my customer stated

that it is easier to subscribe to Norton, even though Norton did

not protect him from a very bad Trojan.  This means that the

average user would not perservere through this problem and

buy another, easier to subscribe, product.

Get Microsoft to improve this activation system!

  • Thanks for confirming what the problem was. Yes, the password issue maddening and perhaps even more maddening is that it has been reported in the past and when tested, complex passwords are not a problem for activating!

So, clearly, there is work to be done to understand what is actually happening.

I hope that your customer is happy with OneCare despite the unfortunate activation experience.

You cannot change the account name for your OneCare subscription, if you mean that you wish to change the LiveID for your Billing account with the OneCare subscription. You can contact support to cancel the current account if you wish to start a new one -
