  • Question

  • This is my diagnostic report, I have windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit system on my dell desktop, purchased so long ago I can't remember or find my disc I did however copy the disc contents to my hard drive in case of loss but my OEM sticker was never put on as I built my tower myself and intended to sell but changed my mind, after several different O/S have been used on my tower I finally found the one I like that is good for what I want to do, what can I do?. I have removed the links due to not being able to post until verified?

  • If you built the system yourself, it needs to have a Retail license.  A Dell OEM_SLP is only licensed for the PC upon which it was originally made for - which would have been at the Dell factory.

  • I know what your saying and in such terms implying I didn't buy retail well I did and everything was going great until I had a failed start up after a short out in my home and then the BIOS up and walked, the problem I am having is the missing BIOS, I fix it and it goes back to square 1 like I never did anything, this BIOS is the only thing stopping me from registering the system, I'm not computer illiterate I've tried doing it manually through the slmgr/ipk etc and still it persists on reseting to square one and the list of things I have tried is increasingly growing from reinstalling to getting new licences and now i'm out of ideas, someone with more knowledge on this problem would be fantastic otherwise I may just run my computer in safe mode and recode the system manually because every solution I use reverts back to square 1 and as many would know it's frustrating!

  • From where did you purchase the Windows 7 media and license?

  • This machine was manufactured 3 years before Windows 7 was released - almost before work on Win7 had started!

It CANNOT legally support an OEM_SLP installation of Windows 7.

If you bought this machine with Windows7 already installed, then you wer sold a counterfeit product, and should complain to the vendor.
