Hello bilud,
The Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage is Non-Genuine. It was installed using a Blocked Volume Licensce Key (VLK). VLK software is not to be sold to consumers, but are designed for large organizations that need 10s 100s or 1000s of Office installs. In this case the VLK is the one Microsoft licened to itself for use by it's own employees. The Key leaked to the internet some time ago and Microsoft has since blocked it from further use.
The reason you hadn't see the Non-Genuine message sooner is that Office doesn't have any anti-piracy systems other then Activation and this pirated Product Key is a Volume License Key that doesn't require Activation. The only way for you to have found out that the Office was Non-Genuine would have been if you had gone to http://Microsoft.com/genuine and click the 'Validate Office", gone to the Office Download site and attempted to download any validation protected content or by installing the Office Notifier. Microsoft recently released the Office Notifier thru Windows Update and it is what is notifying you that the Office is Non-Genuine
Now, I am Not accusing you of piracy. There are a number of reason why your Office would be using a Pirated key. The three most common are:
1) You may have bought the software from a unscrupulous seller who sold you pirated software.
In which case I recommend, if possible, contacting that seller and demand the Genuine Microsoft software, that you paid for or at least a refund. I also recommend submitting a Piracy Report at http://microsoft.com/piracyor
2) You had your computer worked on (by a repair person, a friend or that smart kid down the street) and in the course of fixing the PC, they had to reinstall Office. Instead of contacting you to get the proper Product Key, (maybe due to not knowing it was wrong or due to laziness) they downloaded it from the internet.
In this case, you probably have a Genuine copy (and Product Key) of Office, you just need to uninstall the Non-genuine one and reinstall the software using the proper (Genuine) Product Keyor
3) A repair person, a friend or that smart kid down the street may have thought they were doing you a Favor by installing a copy of Office on your computer, "for Free". But in fact he/she installed a Pirated Copy. It's all togeather possible they didn't know they were doing anything wrong and thought they were just being nice.
In this case, the best way to resolve the issue would be to uninstall the software and if you still want to use Office, buy it from a trusted retailer or online store.
Thank you,

the software came installed from Dell when I purchased the computer as a small business to keep records for the VFW post that I am a member. No one has worked on this computer or loaded any software that did not come from Dell.

Hello bilud,
Dell does not sell volume licensing software to individual consumers or small businesses buying one or two computers at a time. Furthermore, the version of Office you have, Office XP, was long since an obsolete program when you purchased your Dell a couple of years ago, yet another reason why it would not have been sold to you by Dell.
You can verify what came with your Dell by contacting their customer service 800 number so they can look up your order, or check your invoice or statement from Dell.
When you buy Office from Dell, they send you genuine Microsoft hologrammed installation discs that have a Certificate of Authenticity affixed to the paperboard CD holder. Do you have the CoA? It will have the Microsoft Office product name, "Dell", and he product key printed on it. Do you have any discs? If so, to tell if they are discs that would have come with the computer look for the phrase "For distribution with a new PC only" and "For product support contact the manufacturer of the PC" engraved in the hologram in the upper left quadrant of the disc. On the other hand, if your discs have "Volume Licensing software", Not genuine without acompanying volume license agreement" "All use subject to separate Volume Licensing Agreement" or similar printed on the discs, then these are blocked Volume Licensing installation discs. Your nongenuine blocked product key ends in the characters "TBBBY."

Hey Darin,
"that smart kid down the street" installed a non-genuine Office 2007. When I found out, I purchased a genuine Office 2007. When I tried to enter the product code, it refused it, and my "unofficial" copy is still active. I'm not so computer-savvy...how do I uninstall the non-genuine without losing my documents prepared in the interim? I'd appreciate your time if you could answer. Thanks

Hello CRAZYCANOE1,
First, you should take this opportunity to learn how to implement a backup plan for your important documents on your computer.
Having posted the above, as a rule uninstalling Office will not delete, alter, or change existing documents on your computer, assuming you have chosen the default location for saving docs made with Office, which is in your user profile's My Documents (XP) or Documents (Vista and 7) folder.

Hello nig892,
If in doubt, take/send it back for a refund.
What is it about the product that is creating the doubt?
