Product Key Invalid RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have had continuous problems with my OEM installation of Vista. I bought my computer in January of this year, and since then have had to reinstall Vista twice. Each time resulting in a message telling me my copy of Windows Vista is invalid. it gives me the options of buying a new key, typing a different key, or contacting eMachines about the problem. I've searched the forums and found others with this problem, but no solutions.

I did the Windows validation and it told me it could not validate my copy at this time. There was a grayed error code in the bottom of the message:
    [0xC004C4A8]

I, also, ran the diagnostic that so many were asked to run and this is what it said:

Hopefully someone can help me. I've got the run around from both my computer manufacturer and Microsoft Technical Support. Thank you.

  • It looks like you'll need to solve your activation problem before we can get to your validation problem.  Because this forum is dedicated to validation issues, and since you bought your computer from eMachines please contact them for activation support.  Thank you!

  • Hello,

Open command prompt (type cmd in run or search box in Vista then hit OK).  While in command prompt, enter SLUI 4 then hit enter key in your keyboard.

When Windows Activation window appear, select your location.  Call the Microsoft phone # that is provided (toll-free, toll or SMS, whichever is available).  Dictate to Microsoft representative the "installation ID" that you are seeing in the Windows Activation window.  They will verify it and provide the activation ID to proceed in activating.

  • When I do this, I get the same options as before. Buy a New Product Key Online, Type a Different Product Key, Contact eMachines to help solve the problem. There is no option lke you described.
