I am trying to download some software from the Microsoft Download Centre and am required to check the validation of my copy of Vista before I can actually download.

When click on the 'Continue - validation required' button I am taken to another screen that tells me to accept the prompt to 'Install the Genuine Windows Validation Component' via the Internet Explorer Information bar.

The IE Information Bar doesn't have a prompt to install the ActiveX component required for activation. It does have one for installing Silverlight (which is already installed) and suggests an alternative method.

The alternative method fail to go anywhere and redirects back to the validation required site.

My copy of Vista is genuine and I have downloaded the WGA tool and confirmed it.

How do I get around this?

    It's incredibly frustrating.

  • It seems to have corrected itself. The ActiveX component has installed and I can download.
