Unable to do some of the new Hands-On Labs

  I am having problems with trying to do the new hands-on labs for Azure in preparation for a certification. These problems can be divided into the following: 
  

  
  

  1) When trying to create a new resource in the portal, I am told that the account does not have a valid subscription, making me unable to do much of anything in the lab. 
  

  
  

  2) When trying to use the remote desktop for the labs focusing on the Resource Manager, such as AZ00007 and AZ00009, I am told that the generated computer name is not valid. An example of the names provided by these labs are:  @lab.CloudResourceGroup(789).Name.southcentralus.cloudapp.azure.com. 
  
  Have anybody else encountered these problems? And if so, were you able to solve them?
