Question on Exam requirements for MCTS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am sorry if this is obvious – but I am not able to understand how the certification with MS works.

I seem to have some idea about the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist from the mentioned link. What I cannot figure out is the requirements i.e. which exams need to be taken for a particular MCTS.

For example a list of various MCTS Certifications is provided here  It for example shows that for MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5 ASP .NET Applications you need to take Exam 70-536 and Exam 70-561. Are these the ONLY two exams needed for MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5 ASP .NET Applications??

The FAQ provided here seems to suggest that there are “some” (not all) MCTS with three exams. None of the exams provided in the list mentioned preivously here  seem to have 3 exams - if I have understood this correctly.

I hope I could get more clarification from some of you with more experience.

    Thanks to you all all,

    O.O.

  • Hi,

Most MCTS have only one exam in order to get the certification. For example, for MCTS -  Server 2008 Network Infrastructure, you need to take 70-642

The exception to this are the Visual Studio Developer exams. In order to get any of these exams, you must first pass the foundation exam (70-536) and then the MCTS exam for the qualification you wish to achieve. Using your example, .net framework 3.5 ASP .NET Applications, the required MCTS exam is 70-562. In short, once you have taken and passed 70-536, for each MCTS you wish to achieve after that, you will only require to take one more exam.

Does this clarify things for you?

    MCP, MCDST, MCTS x 5, MCITP x 2

  • Hi,

In addition to my above question: (I am referring to Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist - Certifications )

It seems that for MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5 ASP .NET Applications you need to take Exam 70-536 and Exam 70-562. And for MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5 ADO .NET Applications you need to take Exam 70-536 and Exam 70-561. This means that Exam 70-536 is repeated??

Does this mean that if one takes Exam 70-536, Exam 70-561 and Exam 70-562, they would get both MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5 ASP .NET Applications and MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5 ADO .NET Applications??

    Thanks to all,

    O.O.
