Finally got around to installing disk manager add in....a few temp observations for anyone who cares RRS feed

  • Question

my system is home built nad has 4 hard drives all stacked on top of each other.  I staggered the mounts to form a stair step if you will, so as to maximize cooling. (not all bricked 1 on top of the other).

My case has a small fan for the powe supply, the P3 cpu fan, and exit fan, and an entry fan.

I can turn on and off the entry fan.  With it off, the 4 drives range from 122 to 128 degrees f.

When I turn the entry fan on, the temp drops to 104 to 109 degrees f.

I could get away with leaving the fan off, but was suprised at home much cooling it added.  It doesnt blow directly on the drives, but helps to fore air to flow through the case front to back..

  • I'll point out that even the higher temperatures are within most manufacturer's specifications for operation. So while they're a little higher than one might wish, they won't significantly reduce your drive's lifespan.
