Worflows with timeout - Resource problem? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I need help with the pros/cons of using a workflow with timeout VS batch plugin for timeout.

    SQL 2008, Widows 2008, CRM 2011 rollup 3.

I have a custom entity "agreement" with an "alert date" field. The purpose of the alert is to trigger a workflow to remind the customer to renew the agreement.
I have created a workflow that starts when the alert date is changed, and is set to "timeout untill alert date". The workflow works fine, but I wonder what effect this will have on the server side resources.

At any given time the server will have 6000-10000 active agreements. Therefore there will be equally many timeouts via workflow in the system.

Will this clog up the system memory or have effects on performance in any way? Will these workflows resume automatically if the server is rebooted?

My alternative is to create a plug-in that runs once every night that does the same job.

    Thank you
