Linking Contact Records to Opportunities RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    I've created a workflow so that it creates a contact record after an opportunity is created. It is then supposed to update the opportunity record with (Contact(Opportunity)) to link it together. However it doesn't seem to be doing this, it just creates the contact record, with the contact lookup field left blank on the opportunity. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

  • It sounds like you have an update step to update the Opportunity, and in the Contact lookup field you are telling it to use Contact(Opportunity) as the value, But this is the value of that field, which is currently empty.

    Instead you need to select that lookup field then in the pane on the right select not the Opportunity record but right down the bottom of the list you should see the new Contact record - the name will be the name of the step in which you create this record (so you might have called this "Create new Contact" in the step description, for example).

    When you select the Contact record, it should only let you choose the field called Contact, since this is the GUID field. So your "stub" should look something like {Contact(Create new Contact)}

    Hope this helps.

  • Provide the name for the contact creation step as follows.

    While updating the opportunity you need to set the contact field on Opportunity as follows:

    This will set the contact on opportunity as the new contact created and hence this opportunity will get linked to the newly created contact.

    Thanks,

    Sam
