Add Ins Not Showing in Available tab RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have tried everything I can think of, but even thought I have copied a couple of MSIs for Recorded TV Manager 3 into the \\whs\Software\Add-Ins directory and restarted my WHS connection AND restart the WHS, I still cannot see these Add Ins in the available tab.

    What am I doing wrong?

  • Hi Steve,

Try renaming the Recorded TV Manager MSI file to something else (like "recordedtvmanager.msi" or similar). WHS sometimes gets stuck reading properties out of the MSI package - renaming the file tends to force WHS to try again.

  • Didn't work.  This is really frustrating because I have the WHS doing backups and all of that.  Just no add ins.  Could it be some kind of a permissions problem?

  • Not unless you've changed something :) Do other add-ins show up as expected?

  • Well, I was afraid to install other Add Ins since I read that it can be kind of a ____ to uninstall them.  However, I did get the Windows Home Server Disk Management Add In to show up just fine, so that helps.  I went ahead and RDP'd to the Home Computer and tried just running those Recorded TV Manager MSI files and got some error about "not the right OS" so perhaps I didn't download the right stuff.

    Thanks for helping me!

  • Most of the uninstall issues for those add-ins you've been reading about have been solved in later versions - just make sure you download the latest one!

You don't want to install Add-Ins by double-clicking the MSI file from the desktop, that's where you will still run into uninstall issues :) There are multiple versions of Recorded TV Manager, and Recorded TV Manager 3 isn't the WHS add-in (that bit isn't free).

  • I am having this same problem. My Movies is the only add-in to show up in the console, settings, available tab.
When I look at the folder on my clients desktop, which is the shared folders, I opened software add-ins, copied downloaded software to that folder (from my clients hd, to server hd) closed it all up, even rebooted and no add ins show up in the console settings, available tab.

I am currently running the PP3 version but it is the 30 day trial. Wanted to do my experimenting whit this, then get the permanent version and re-do it. I copied and pasted, and I dragged and dropped, neither method works. I dragged and dropped my movies, it worked. The programs not cooperating are WHSToolkit, Fire fly media server, and Bonjour.

  • I am having a similar issue.

This is a new installation of WHS and is the first add-in I am trying to load. It is LightsOutInstaller1.0.3.1133.msi. I put the .msi in \\Server\Software\Add-Ins. When I go to the WHS Console - Settings - Add-ins - Available nothing is listed. I have tried rebooting WHS, renaming the file, removing the file from the directory and re-adding, but nothing has worked. I decided to try a different add-in, copied the .msi to the folder and it is appearing in the Available list.

Any ideas why Lights Out isn't showing up and how I can fix it?

    Thanks,
    Sean

  • Follow-up:

Reading another post on this forum I got the idea to look at the Home Server Console log - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Home Server\logs

The log contains the following error -- Failure 1620 at opening package \\SERVER\Software\Add-ins\LightsOutInstaller1.0.3.1133.msi

  • Resolution:

The following post - http://forum.wegotserved.com/index.php/topic/15305-uninstallinstall-screw-up-part-2/ - answered this question. The download was corrupt.

All I had to do was re-download the .msi and copy it over to Add-ins and it worked.
