System error 2, when validating windows vista in Command promt

My Windows Vista can not check for updates, then i was prompted to validate my Windows Vista.
1. I opened comand prompt, Run as Administrator
2. typed net start slsvc the following information was printed
The Software Licensing service is starting
The Software Licensing service could not be started
A system error has occurred
System error 2 has occured
The system cannot find the file specified
C:\Windows\system32>
Could you please send me the relevant information on how i can fix this error.
I am positive my windows vista is genuine as i bought this labtop directly from Dell Ireland with the Vista package preinstaled

Hi Patrick,
The problem is that the Software Licensing Service has stopped and Vista uses that service to check it's Genuine status. When Vista can't access the Service, it assumes that something has tampered with the Service and flags itself as non-Genuine.
"Net Start Slsvc" is the manual command to force start the Software Licensing Service, the fact that you are getting a System Error tells me that the core issue isn't within Vista's Anti-Piracy systems, but is in the Core Vista systems. I suggest going to http://support.microsoft.com for additional Vista support options.
