  • It is possible that the firewall is likely blocking the remote access.

See this help article first of all:

    http://help.live.com/Help.aspx?market=en-US&project=WL_Core&querytype=topic&query=WL_Core_CONC_AboutRemoteAccess.htm

Note also that Live Mesh remote desktop access will not work if you are passing through an authenticated proxy server.

There are some other reasons for this, including a temporary back end problem and a bad installation. Since you have uninstalled and reinstalled, I'm leaning towards suspecting the firewall or a back end issue.

On the other hand, if both PCs are on the same network segment (local LAN) the firewall should not be an issue and it would point to a possible back end issue or installation issue. If the latter, it would strange that both PCs were affected equally.

Since Live Mesh as we know it today is going away eventually, to be replaced by Live Sync (in beta, will be renamed Live Mesh by release) that won't install on XP, you may be better off simply seeking an alternative remote access solution.

  • Is the remote PC behind a firewall or proxy server? What operating system on the remote PC? Have you tried accessing it via the Live Desktop at www.mesh.com from another PC?

  • Yes I am behind a firewall.

I am running XP on both local and remote PC's.

Tried on www.mesh.com but I still get the same message.

I can link from the PC in question using LIVEMESH but cannot link to the PC in question using LIVEMESH.

  • Hi! How could you install on XP? Isn't it supposed to work on Windows 7 only? Thanks for your help.

You are posting to an old thread. Yes, Windows Live Mesh will not install on XP.
