Windows Vista Home Premium RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have vista home premium, like many others have been shut down due to non genuine windows.  I have been reduced to RFM, so i have no access to my desktop or anything else on my cpu since i run out of "quota" when trying to access anything.  I have gone as far as purchasing a new home premium os in hopes that i could just solve the problem that way.  Now after a week of waiting, and still can't get this up i will turn here.  How do i convert this in RFM?  Everything i have seen and read says to click start, right click computer, click properties, then change product key.  On major problem, There is no start to Click!  I have sent into tech support but right now it seems that i am just getting the pass off.  Anyone have any clue or solutions?

  • Hello Anarian2,

Your Diagnostic Report indicates that Vista's Licensing Store may be corrupt or malformed in some way (or the data it contains is).  Please try the below steps to recreate the Store and it's data.

    1) Open an Internet Browser window.
    2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
    3) Find the file CMD.exe
    4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
    5) Type: net stop slsvc  (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
    6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
    7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    9) Type: net start slsvc
    10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
    11) Restart your computer twice.
    12) You may be required to enter the Product Key and/or Activate. (be sure to use the Activate by Phone method).

    Tell how it turns out.

    Thank you,

  • Thank you Darin, I was able to get everything up and running again.  I do have one more quetion however.  Everything went through the validation.  I used the original Key that i had.  I did not have the option to activate by phone, so i just followed was on the screen.  The question is, Will i have this problem again?  Should i change the product key to the new one that i should be getting?

  • Hi Anarian2,

No, this is just a random problem that sometimes happens.  It is unlikely that it will occure again.

    Thank you,
