Vista Validation - Not genuine Error -Build 6002

    Question

  • My 4 year old Toshiba laptop with Vista just started saying I do not have a genuine copy of Windows. I ran the diagnostic and got the report below.  Clearly, it says I have an invalid license though I have been using this computer for over 4 years.

    I have 26 days left!

I tried to re-enter the product key on the System tab but it says the key will not work with this version of Vista and to rerun Vista setup or enter the proper code.  I did this on the Product ID line but I should have been working on the line above that says “Vista has not been activated”.  When I click on activate now, it says to re-install Vista. Ther eis no other option. I have done this twice.

     Any suggestions???

    John

It looks like your Licensing Store is corrupt.
Please try the below steps to recreate the Store files. This may resolve the issue.

    1) Open an Internet Browser window.
    2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
    3) Find the file CMD.exe
    4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
    5) Type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
    6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
    7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    9) Type: net start slsvc
    10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
    Reboot TWICE
If necessary, then you may be required to enter the Product Key and/or Activate. (check again for a COA sticker!)

    Reboot

Once complete, please post back with a new MGADiag report

  • Try validating online using Internet Explorer ?

    Saturday, November 12, 2011 3:57 PM
  • Good thought but when i do this I get the following message:

    Windows validation was interrupted.

The validation service is unable to determine whether Windows is genuine.

I tried it more than once.  Got the same answer each time.  I even turned off my virus protection but got the same answer.

Yep – all looks good now.

One final thing, to clear the last remaining error – go to www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate to validate the install.
It should pass, in which case you’ll be offered IE9 and MSE – you don’t have to take them.

    Good luck.
