OWA Not connecting to Dynamics App for Outlook RRS feed

  • The environment:

    • On Prem - recently upgraded test instance to Dynamics 365.
    • IFD deployment

    When trying to connect to CRM using the Dynamics App, the connection fails.  The app prompts to retry and then start the application but ultimately fails.  Interestingly, the URL that it's trying to get to is the Instance name.

    For example:  My domain name is https:\\Contoso.com, and the CRM instance that I want to use is https:\\contoso.com\Testinstance.main.aspx - however when trying to connect to Dynamics app for Outlook, the error returned is:

    "Testinstance.contoso.com is not available", so the DNS name is being taken as the \instance name

    I know that this is not a valid URL and there is a DNS issue, but I'm trying to understand how this is working.

    I have little exposure to on-prem, so this is a new one for me!

    Apologies if this is not clear, any advise welcomed.
