Windows not genuine message RRS feed

  • Question

  • I was recently asked to activate Windows, which had been activated and validated for a couple of years previously.  I entered the product key and activated Windows successfully.  But, now my wallpaper is a black screen with "Windows Vista (TM) Build 6002 This copy of Windows is not genuine" in the corner.  I would like this message to go away.

  • Hello AudraBlair,

Your Diagnostic Report is showing all Genuine.

It's possible that the grace period, to re-activate, may have ended around the same time you re-activated.  Inwhich case, Windows would have gone into a Non-Genuine state, but then returned back to Genuine after you re-activated. It can sometimes take Vista a Reboot or two, to fully reset after a Non-Genuine event.

Try rebooting (twice, if necessary) and the black background and non-genuine message should disappear.

    Thank you,
    Darin MS
