Partitioning New Internal Hard Drive for Back-up Purposes RRS feed

  • Question

  • I bought a new internal hard drive for my WHS for back-up purposes.  I have not been able to add the new hard drive under the server storage tab because the install wizard is saying that the drive is not partitioned.  How do I correctly partition the drive for back-up purposes?

    Thanks!

The correct way would be to remove it from the server, connect it to a client, and create a partition there.  The "lazy" way would be to add that drive to the storage pool (forcing WHS to format it for you), then remove it from the storage pool and add it back as a backup drive.  :)
