Unable to use Microsoft Office products due to validation. RRS feed

  • Question

  • So microsoft updater periodically grabs updates for office and then, before it will let me install them, demands I put in the 25 digit key code.

If for no other reason than principle, I refuse to go digging through boxes to find a cd key so that Microsoft can update its own software.  I believe this is a reasonable position.

Anyway, every time I try to open a Microsoft product, it demands I update it, and enter the CD key code - or it shuts down automatically.

Im not using pirated software, only the office 2003 that came with the machine.

    Suggestions?

I've included to results of the diagnostic tool.

  • Ramus4,

The WGA diagnostic tool shows that only Office XP Professional is genuine and no other office applications are showing.

As Dan mentioned, there may be issues with the Office 2003 installation.  To stop the updates for the CD key code,
please uninstall Office 2003.  You can go to Start, Run, appwiz.cpl and remove from there or you can use the Windows
Cleanup Install Utility found here at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301.

Is it possible that the Office 2003 may be a trial version that expired?  For Office trial versions here is a faq that you can
look at for future reference.  http://www.microsoft.com/office/pctrial/faq.mspx#E2G

  • Ramus4,

Your mgadiag report is showing that you have two installations of Office on your computer, Office XP Pro and Office 2003 Standard.

Office XP Pro is showing as status=100 which means genuine.

Office 2003 Standard is showing as status=104 which means unknown Product ID, whcih means there may be a problem with the installation.

May I suggest that you uninstall Office 2003 Standard, then revisit the validation page?  If validation is successful, try opening and running Office XP applications, which I think you will be able to do.

If you can, then it shows that the installation of Office 2003 Standard was somehow defective.  What was the source of your purchase of Office 2003 Standard; do you have the hologrammed genuine Microsoft installation CDs for Office 2003; do you have a Certificate of Authenticity for your Office 2003?
