WHS 2011 Connector Issue - Yes One More Time :) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have read read read and hammered Google :)

    Ok

    Vista x64

    Now the connector would install but never work, want to login off line ??

    Fixed this issue, yep trusty NetTcpPortSharing service, turned out to be a KillerNic driver (card long gone) removed service started.

    Now when trying to install the connector it fails gets to 95% and Brths, I have pulled the install to bits.

    ClientCore.msi is the one that fails, this can be run on its own for fater testing. taken from Windows\temp\Client Deployment Files

    Now when this run it brths an error

    EVENT 513, CAPI2

    Cryptographic Services failed while processing the OnIdentity() call in the System Writer Object.

    Details:
    AddWin32ServiceFiles: Unable to back up image of service getPlusHelper since QueryServiceConfig API failed

    System Error:
    The system cannot find the file specified.

    Notice the error, not the great Writer permissions problem !

    Writer name: 'System Writer'
       Writer Id: {e8132975-6f93-4464-a53e-1050253ae220}
       Writer Instance Id: {17d34630-c858-4148-9b66-4814d9f55112}
       State: [1] Stable
       Last error: No error

    So HELP

    what is the missing file ??????

    I have unistalled .Net 4 and let the install process install that !

    The connector works fine on a Vista 32 install

  • Have you read the following article and/or thread to verify the permissions in the %WINDIR%\Registration and %WINDIR%\WinSxS\* folders?

    If the above doesn’t work, you might try running SysInternals’ ProcMon (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals or http://live.sysinternals.com/), reproduce the error, then filter the the ProcMon event list for “ACCESS DENIED” errors (assuming it’s a permissions problem). This may be somewhat of a pain to track down and the event list in ProcMon will be huge, so use the filters in ProcMon to filter out irrelevant processes.

    You might also use ProcExp to see the process tree to narrow it down to just those processes created by the installer. ProcExp shows the processes as a tree so the processes created by the installer will be indented immediately underneath the installer process.

  • ok the problem can be recreated installing the Back Reader System/Kernal Driver

    BackupReaderDriver.inf
    BackupReader.cat
    backupreader.sys

    This causes the CAPI2 error ! thought the driver does install ???

    Very strange
