WHS Restore New HDD No backup files listed to choose from

Question
-
OK so I have a WHS and I decided to do a test before I start to rely on this new piece of equipment. I backed up the Wife's Vista Ultimate PC then shut it down. I then removed the 320 GB WD HDD and plugged in a BRAND NEW (sealed static bag) WD 320 GB HDD. I then booted to the recovery cd and things were looking good. I got logged into the server and was asked to Choose the PC to restore. I chose the Wife's PC (Listed as (This PC) ). and then came my issue. The screen popped up for me to choose the backup I want to restore and it has nothing listed. I looked on the server and there are several there including the one I did just before starting this experiment. I tried to go back and choose the other PC listed (My desktop) and the backups pop right up. No issue (except that these are for the wrong PC).
What gives? Drivers dont seem to be an issue. The connection to the server is fine or I wouldn't see the backups of my PC
Anyone have any ideas?Wednesday, January 7, 2009 7:05 AM

Hi,
the "this PC" option cannot work from the recovery environment, since the identity is not clear here. (I assume, this selection is for the restore functionality within a running Windows and using ClientRestoreWizard.exe from its local Windows Home Server folder.)

Hello,
please check the console from a running client, if the backup really has been completed. To do this, double click the PC in question in the WHS console and check the status of its backups. Try also to open the backup of that PC, in case it is listed as successfully completed.
Did you use the recovery CD delivered with the package or the updated Windows Home Server Home Computer Restore CD?

I have checked and the backup seems good. I have also discovered the recovery CD was out of date. I have created a new one and am now trying it out. The backups showed up if I chose the "Different PC" option then the old name of the PC. Once the backups appeared I was able to init the drive and it is now in the process or restoring. We will see how it turns out. The having to choose a "Different PC" instead of the "This PC" option is odd and threw me for a loop. MS may want to change that. says 23 minutes left, but we will see.Wednesday, January 7, 2009 8:09 AM

With the new restore Cd and choosing the "Other PC" then the old name of the PC, it worked. Took about 30 minutes and I was logging back in.Wednesday, January 7, 2009 8:39 AM
