SAP to Dynamics CRM Integration RRS feed

  • Question

  • Team:

How to extend/integrate and utilize the data source from SAP - FICO/SD/MM/QM module on to CRM. Can the updates on dynamics CRM synched back and forth with SAP systems?  There is a need to use the SAP CRM MASTER data using Dynamics CRM. Any pointers would be much appreciated..

    Thanks...

  • If you are looking to integrate CRM and SAP, you can develop your own integration using the sdk or look at a 3rd party tool such as Scribe.  They have a Dynamics CRM adapter as well as a SAP R/3 adapter that should work well for your integration with Dynamics CRM.

  • Depending on your SAP version, the first challenge will be to get the SAP functionality you would like to expose to Dynamics CRM or update from Dynamics CRM. Older SAP versions required some work to expose SAP BAPI's or IDOC's as web services first. Newer editions, allow you to expose these services via XI and with an Integration tool like BizTalk (and the SAP/CRM Adapters), you can build extensive integration scenarios. I recommend you first talk to the SAP folks at your company to discuss this.

  • Thanks Mark for the suggestion. I'm aware of Scribe, but that would workout for **migration** scenario. Here the customer wants to extend his existing SAP systems and use the feature sets of Dynamics CRM as he already have the MS stack infrastructure. I'e not got enough details about this SAP systems yet, but I got to make sure if we can integrate the data onto MS CRM. The key thing here is, they are also looking at sync between SAP CRM & MS CRM so, any changes at either system should reflect on both of them. Not just the one time data pull from SAP CRM onto MS CRM.

    Thanks..

  • This can be a good place to start

Keep in mind that in order for such integration to be considered as "supported" by SAP, you want to adhere to their prescribed approach.

  • Hi Arulvr,

I have been working on a complete end to end integration between a SAP and a Dyanmics CRM systems using Scribe for a while now.

In short, Scribe does it fine. The greatest advantage is that you have to worry mainly about the mappings and the actual logic while using an interface. The disadvantage is speed. It's a bit slow with about 10 records per second processed. I am connecting to a remote hosted Dynamics CRM solution using Scribe's IFD tool though, so this might be an issue. A custom solution might still be better (more customised obviously) and probably faster but will definitely take longer, more resources and time (i.e. more costs). It will also be a tiring job to build the custom solution to have the interfaces and features that Scribe that allows you to change the mappings frequently (as many client changes their mind on regular basis, i.e. Change requests, etc.). One option is to use Biztalk, but again cost and licensing might be an issue.

I also have to say that we had to do some batch (.bat) files to do some processing after source has been processed. But all batch files are handled within Scribe.

Luckily we have a good client and Scribe has done its job well letting you focus on integration mappings, data quality, etc..

I have a post on my blog that explains some basics of what I have done: http://www.mohamedibrahim.net/blog/2009/07/06/sap-and-microsoft-dynamics-crm-integration-using-scribe/

Hope this helps. Please vote if you find this useful.

    Thanks,

  • If you have a license for SQL Server 2008 and up , I would recommend you check CozyRoc SSIS+ library here. It is a suite of components and the library includes adapters for Dynamics CRM integration. All three deployment types are supported: Premise, Hosted and Live. For working with SAP systems, you can use the provided by Microsoft adapters. You can download Microsoft SAP adapters from here.
