Backup from XP to Vista

  My old computer hard drive died.  The computer was eight years old and had XP Home installed.  I only backed up data files, E-Mail etc but no system files or complete back up.  I bought a new computer with Vista Home Premium installed.  Can I install windows Live OneCare and update my back up files (From OneCare on a external hard drive) to my new Vista computer?
