Is this version of Microsoft Office 2010 Home and Students edition valid? RRS feed

  • Question

  • My friend found a web site that has a reduce price for Microsoft Office Home and Students.  We are both students living in the same dormitory.  I was wondering if the site is legitimate?  Here is the link:

    http://www.ecrater.com/p/8736683/microsoft-office-home-and-student-2010-32-bit

I tried speaking with a Microsoft Live representative and they say they do not know the site is legitimate or not; and that they can only validate the product after we obtain it.

    What would your recommendation be?

    Cheers,

  • Hello Gnimble,

The price for the product is on the lower end of the normal range for Office H&S 2010.  I have no idea whether the site is legitimate.

I don't think you would qualify to share the three licensed installations between your roomate and yourself as the Software Licensing Terms specify a household--dorm roomates do not constitute a household.

Here's a better deal IMO for college students:  http://www.microsoft.com/student/office/en-us/default.aspx  The product is cheaper and you get much more, plus you get the opportunity to upgrade to W7Pro for the dirt-cheap price of $29.99.

  • Hello Dan,

Thank you for your reply.  I'm actually in a religious community and do share the household with the other community brothers.  We actually live, study and work in the same house... closer than my own family when I used to live with them.  Would that quality us as a household in the license term?    We are not roomates in the definition of a college roomate and we do not live in dorms.

    Thank you,

    Gnimble
