Using Live Mesh + SyncToy + Windows Home Server

Hi everyone,
Right, so here's the situation. I have 2 Windows 7 machines at home, a Windows Home Server, and then an XP machine at work (plus and XBOX and an iPhone, but we can forget those for the moment).
So, generally speaking, all may data gets stored on the WHS where it's mirrored and nice and safe. That way it's accessible to both of my machines at home and from the WHS web site.
But, to use Live Mesh to sync my folders to my work machine, I can't map a network folder. I also can't add my WHS directly to my Mesh (I've heard some rumblings that this feature is coming, but no idea when).
So to make this work, I have to use SyncToy 2 to keep a folder on my home desktop in sync with me WHS. Then I have to add the same folder to my Mesh. Once this is done I can now sync it to a folder on my work computer.
So, my question is: Is there a better way to do this? Or how long till Microsoft starts combining these many many technologies together, given this scenario ignores SkyDrive and Live Sync.
Any input, discussion, welcome!Friday, May 15, 2009 11:59 AM

Your solution is probably as good as any given the current limitations of the services.
There may be a better way, but if I were looking to do what you are doing, I think I'd have arrived at the same solution.
I am sure that there is no available answer to the How Long question regarding combining the technologies. I do believe that it will happen eventually.
If you haven't already done so, have a look at this thread regarding how to vote on or submit suggestions for Live Mesh:

Live Mesh work on WHS at this time.
But it seems to have some conflict between Mesh Remote Desktop and the integrated RDP of WHS. For me after Mesh installation RDP is very hard to use with deconnection over deconnection... Mesh RDP working fine.
I try it at this time, Mesh use lot and lot of CPU time (but my WHS is on a virtualmachine with a 2Ghz AthonXP :p ). I'll make some feedback as soon as possible.
But I saw there will be some great merging between mesh and WHS, that was showed at the PDC08:

Can't wait to try it :pTuesday, May 19, 2009 4:11 PM -

Hey RedFoxTX,
It is indeed that for Microsoft to survive in this fast growing and highly versatile Web2.0 (and awaiting Web3.0/3.5/whatever) market. As you and ____ lots of others, including MS guys, have pointed it that it is the time for Microsoft to venture-in "rightly" in Internet domain.
As of now for me I would say Hotmail and My Spaces/Live spaces-nowadays are some good landmarks but I really don't find "any" other general online public product of MS to be a milestone.
But as a MS lover I'm patiently waiting for 'Mr.Developer' to understand - and implement very fast- the power MS have if it can "integrate" its online/desktop-offline products.Wednesday, June 3, 2009 7:23 PM
