I realise that the layout of the forum's will change over time (it shouln't, it's bad practise, but that's another issue), but for goodness' sake, stop fiddling around with the forum URLs.It seems that it changes on a daily basis - forums.msdn... msdn.com/forums and now social.msdn.micrsoft.com/forums? Yeah, that's just so obvious. And at the very least maintain the old address, it's an absolute pain trying to hunt down old (say more than a week old) threads when some numpty decides his method of classification is far superior to everyone else's and the only acceptable one, then goes and hides everything.I thought forums were to help developers not to occupy MS employees with >>> vitriolic outrage expunged <<<.

I have heard it said that some people have been locked out of the forums because their employers block sites with "social" in the URL.
I personally find the linking of the forums with social networking very inappropriate. For me the Microsoft newsgroups and forums are serious business. Social networking is fine, but it is not for me. I already spend quite enough time at the computer.

I don't think that you need to add a word into a url to change the meaning of the site. If the forums are social, then they are, you don't need a "social" in the address for that.
www.microsoft.com/forums/msdn would be better. We all know, its Microsoft, right? And you can drop www, then it becomes Microsoft.com/forums/msdn, which is easy to remember. You just go to Microsoft, then to Forums, then to Msdn.- Edited by Silvercode Tuesday, September 16, 2008 9:49 AM Added a dot

Not obvious to me (yes I know you are joking). I am not aware of a single social forum in the social.msdn.micrsoft.com/forums; they are all technical, correct?
It is like Windows Explorer that explores the filesystem, not windows. There are many other instances of Microsoft's need to confuse, and complaining about it encorages them.
