Problems with Communicator 2007 via VPN RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have run into two issues I cannot seem to solve. I have Communicator working just fine internally including the address book and Exchange 2007 integration with Unified Messaging. However, when I have users that VPN in, using Vista, they receive the Cannot Synchronize Address Book error and then usually shortly after that an Exchange Connection Error (Communicator could not retrieve calendar or Out of Office information from Exchange Web Services. Oddly this does not seem to be a problem with users who are using XP SP2 systems.

Both OCS and Exchange servers have certificates installed that were issued by our internal CA and the root certificate is loaded on the client Vista system that is VPNing in. Essentially the same setup as works on the internal systems.

I can browse to the https://ocsserver.domain.loc/abs/ext and https://ocsserver.domain.loc/abs/int and I can browse the https://ocsserver.domain.loc/abs/files folder.

I have seen other people having similar issues but I am not sure why this seems to be unique to remote users that are not part of the domain and only on Vista based systems.

All OCS/Communicator hotfixes posted through December have been installed on the clients and server and all Windows updates have been applied to both as well including Office 2007 SP1.

Does anyone have any idea why this does not work and what I can do to fix it or track down the cause?

    Thank you in advance.

  • Hmmm - the first thing that comes to mind is access to a CRL distribution point from your VPN'd in Vista client.  Vista checks CRL's more frequently than does XP, so XP would work until it performed another CRL check and couldn't successfully process the CRL for your certs.  Hope this helps.
