Sample code examples to get started??

    Question

  • Hi

I'm new to CCS and I would like to know if I could get any example code to get started with CCS 2008.. especially to check may be the basic functionality of CCS head and its connection with the nodes etc.

Any  help wil be appreciated, thanks in advance

  • Hi Shivangi,

You'll find some code samples at the community site under the resources tab (http://WindowsHPC.net).   Most of the samples posted here apply to both CCS and CCS 2008.  The HPC Server 2008 beta program at http://Connect.Microsoft.com also has samples for the 2008 release of HPC Server.

We're working on more samples specifically illustrating the Open Grid Forum (OGF) Web Services interface as well as the WCF Broker interface.   These will be posted at the community site soon.

Be sure to download the HPC Pack SDK from the beta program downloads page.

  • Hey Thank you so much

I was goin through the links you gave , but I'm not sure I'm doing it the right way(may be I'm searching the wrong way)
So here is exactly what I plan to do on CCS 2008
I have a code in Java written for a distributed application based on the concept of shared spaces (Linda like) and P2P communication is aided with Jxta libraries, I am going to try to replace Jxta with RDMA  (Network Direct) support and port the whole code on the CCS cluster we have in college. Could you give me any pointers to start with on RDMA support in CCS 2008

    Thanks & Regards

  • Hi Shivangi,

There are two types of RDMA support in Windows HPC Server 2008. The first is Winsock Direct (WSD). WSD is shipped as part of Windows Server 2008. As long as your hardware supports RDMA and you have the WSD drivers from your hardware vendor then your sockets code will automatically take advantage of RDMA.

HPC Server 2008 will also support a new MPI-only RDMA interface called Network Direct. This interface provides even lower latency for RDMA communications and is integrated directly with the Microsoft MPI stack. MPI applications will automatically take advantage of that interface if they have RDMA hardware and Network Direct drivers on both sides.

    Hope that helps,

    Ryan
