Can't backup 10 computers RRS feed

  • Question

  • I had nine computers on my WHS, and the windows also showed "Server" and "not backed up".  I tried to put a new laptop on the WHS and the Home Server connector told me that I could only have 10 computers.  But the Server entry is being counted, and I don't know how to delete it.

I did once have a removable drive and copied the metadata to restore the database to a new PC.  Did this count as a backup of the server?

  • The server is not counted, but sometimes you have record for a formerly joined machine stuck in the registry of the Home Server.

Login to the server and run regedit.
Check the subkeys below registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Home Server\Transport\Clients (I assume you will find 10 keys here) for a obsolete machine. If you think you found one delete the key after exporting it to a .reg file, just in case.
Reboot and try again to add a client.
