Does Anyone Actually Use Media Streamer In WHS RRS feed

  • Question

  • This program seems slow and clunky. I've not found it reliable enough to trust it with any of my content.

  • What content are you trying to play?  To what, and by what connection?

    For example if you are trying to stream HD movies, high quality camcorder movies over wireless then it will not work.

  • Just music. Often times I just open a shortcut to the public or music folder on the client to the WHS.  Sometimes it's just slow as Christmas getting to and opening the files.  Once I am there and it's playing then there's no interruption.

    Could it be the amount of content in the public or music folder?  I wouldn't think so.

    My experience with WHS has been very poor lately in my opinion. The console sometimes takes more than one try to open among other things.  There are no virus or malware on either machine.

    I am stumped.  Not sure if there are tools to measure performance but I wish I could get to the bottom of it.

    I use the the built-in Media Sharing function for music, photos and videos (including 720p HD videos) all over wireless to my 360 and it works fine for me.

  • Did you try another client PC?

    If the problem is not specific to the client I would conclude that your server or network is having problems.

    * Check your NIC's operation speed (10MBits?, 100MBits, ...)
    * From the consol or remote desktop, how is the general performace of your server?
    * Try copying a large file from the shares to the desktop. Normal tranfer speeds?
    * Check your cabling.
