  • Tally,

The problem you are experiencing is mismatched product keys for the Vista version you are trying to activate. The product key located on the Certificate of Authenticity "COA" sticker will not work on the System Builder version of Vista you intalled. There are different versions of Vista and product keys are tied to certain versions.  You need the actual product key that came with the Vista you are using but it appears this product key has already been used. Maybe you can contact HP and request them to send you a restoration disc in English.

    Thank you,

    Stephen

  • Hello Tally,

I noticed you have a HP Pavilion dv9700 Notebook PC. Do you have the original restoration software which came with the computer @ the time of purchase? The problem is you have an OEM System Builder version of Vista installed on the computer but are using the product key located on the computer. This product key  is called a COA Product Key and is tied to the OEM SLP version of windows which was originally installed by HP.

Please tell us about the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) for your copy of Windows Vista.

    1. What edition/version of Windows Vista is titled?

    ·         Home Basic

    ·         Home Premium

    ·         Business

    ·         Ultimate

    2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?

    3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?

    4. Please provide the customer scenario you are experiencing.

    5. DO NOT post the Product Key.

Not sure what to look for, see this page to reference your COA:

    Thank you,

    Stephen.

i formatted the drive c: because i was having problems with some softwares are was using on the machine, but i didn't use the recovery cd because it is in dutch and i needed english version so i used a different cd for the formatting and entered my original product key that came with it. it then gave me a three days automatic activation which did not happen so but rather prevented me from using my computer. i then formatted again and this time when i tried to activate it tells me that my key is in used by another machine, which i don't know anything about!
    thank you!
