Question: how sensitive is WHS to different sizes of disk?

Question do th enumber of platters, secorts and bytes per sector need to be idential (as on Linux system).

As I bought an Acer Home server with 3*1TB Hitachi drives (idential) 5 months ago 80% used.

My disks have 16MB buffer on disk, SATA 2, 300Mb transfere rate,7200rpm. But the nearest in can find (new) are 32MB buffer. the case has space for 4 hot swap drives i.e. 1 free slot.

will the driver extender replicate the data !

  • You can add any drive to WHS v.1 or Vail . Big or small, slow or fast.

You have an option in WHS V.1 to duplicate data to the drive.  In Vail you may backup the data that is on the drive(s)

  • If you mean Drive Extender, it will work with anything you can throw at it. But not in Vail. If you look at any of the other threads in this forum you'll find someone wailing because MS dropped the feature. Maybe not Fail, but Wail for sure :)
