Users Logged Out after period of time - CRM 4.0 On Premise NOT IFD RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am using IIS 7 on a full Windows Server 2008 enviornment. I've noticed that after a period of time users are logged out of the system. There is no real consistency to the amount of time before a user is asked to log back in and when the do they receive a "HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials" error. Users never have any issues on first login, they only do when they CRM sits open for a while.

I found two articles that may be related http://support.microsoft.com/kb/871179 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917818. The first article states an issue: "The Web site is configured to use Integrated Windows authentication only."

I checked IIS and found that following settings:

Forms Authenticaton: Disabled (HTTP 302 Login/Redirect)

Windows Authentication: Enabled HTTP 401 Challenge

I am taking a stab in the dark, looking for some general direction.

  • You could increase your application pool settings for recycling. The only time I've seen a prompt for credentials when the authentication is windows and 'Automatic login with UserName and Password' are selected in IE Zone settings is when IIS is restarted or the Application Pool is recycled and the user attempts to access the site during this time.

  • You might want to check your Event Log and trace files (if you have tracing turned on) to see if you can find any specific issues.

There is the standard, "make sure your IE settings are up to date with Login with Current Username and password" set for the Zone that CRM resides in (Local or Trusted). When you say 'asked to log back in' denotes you have the IE Zone set to Prompt for Username and Password.

  • No IE isn't set to force a login, as I stated in my first message that may not have been clear users log directy into CRM, single sign on. After they have been idle for a while at times they are prompted to login to CRM again which ultimatly fails wiht the above 404 error.

I checked the logs, nothing in the server logs that would stand out at all....
