CRM 2011 when to use IFD RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

could someone shed some light on this?

It is very confusing as we have CRM 2011 on premise system in my organization and any CRM user can access it OVER INTERNET using https:\\<servername>.<domainname>:<portnumber for https>\<organization name> and we do not have IFD configured. On the other hand, they say that one should have an IFD with claim based authentication configured in order to have access to CRM over internet.

How come I can access it then and should I used IFD instead?

    Thank you!

  • Hi Kotena,

If you have configured your URL to be a public URL that can be accessed over the internet, you would be able to access CRM using the https://servername.domainname:port

At times, the internal url that is configured for CRM is not publicly available. To make it available you either setup your CRM on a public ip like you have done or configure IFD for claims based authentication.

When you use the public IP option, you are still working on Windows authentication and it would show up the windows prompt to enter credentials.

IFD presents the user with the Sign-in page and the user can type in their credentials to access CRM.
