  you want to know more about Nagios.

  I have submitted a whitepaper on Nagios installation on Studentrockstar.

  Nagios is very powerfull monitoring application.

  It can monitor any thing ,even microoven's temperature,

  washing machine's speed, any fault in network.

  It also send notifications to contacts defined in service and host definition. It performs defined actions in different circumtances.
