  • I can understand the frustrations!

Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following
    commands

    sc sdshow plugplay

    REG QUERY "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-18" /S

    REG QUERY "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-19" /S

    REG QUERY "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-20" /S

Copy and paste the results to your reply

Here are some instructions to make life easier
    :)

    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the CP window), click on Start,
All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run
as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of
commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Windows,
click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run
but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.

    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White
icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key -
then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

  • I did run an Elevated  Command Prompt and copy and pasted that complete line you suggested the report I have been posting is from MGADiag.exe if there is another way to generate a report please let me know
    Saturday, September 1, 2012 6:17 PM
  • I DO NOT WANT AN MGADIAG REPORT - DO NOT TOUCH THAT FILE.

open an Elevated Command Prompt Window  - click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.

    Accept the UAC prompt.

You should now have the black command prompt window onscreen.

Copy the following commands into the Command Prompt window using this method -  highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the Command Prompt Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.

    sc sdshow plugplay REG QUERY "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-18" /S REG QUERY "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-19" /S REG QUERY "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-20" /S

Now copy the results using this procedure - click on the Black/White icon in the top left of the Command Prompt window, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

If you can't do that yourself, get someone to help - because I cannot possibly make it any easier, and if you can't do that you have absolutely no chance of applying any fix I may be able to provide.

  • At Last!! thank you - perfect.

That eliminates the standard Microsoft 'fix' for the error.

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-click on the Command Prompt entry

Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

     At the Command prompt, type

     CHKDSK C: /R

     and hit the Enter key.

You will be told that the drive is locked,

and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.

The chkdsk will take a few hours depending on the size  of the drive, so be patient!

After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally  (possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-click on the Command Prompt entry

Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

     At the Command prompt, type

     SFC /SCANNOW

     and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

Copy the CBS.log file created to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and upload it to your SkyDrive (http://skydrive.live.com ) and post a link to it so that I can take a look.

Post a new MGADiag report with details of any error messages encountered.

  • 1) please run another SFC /SCANNOW and reboot

    2) Please post a new MGADiag report

The earlier SFC run seems to have had to have a reboot before completion, and I'm not convinced that it completed properly.

Please post the new CBS.log file after compressing it - I had to attempt the download 8 times before I got all 8MB of the old one, thanks to my bad 3G connection :(

  • The good news is that the new run of SFC found no errors - the bad news is that the problem is still not solved.

Please download and run (Install) the CheckSUR tool from this page - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821 - you will need the 64-bit version for Windows 7 to be found under 'Method 2' (direct download link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=167367 )

Please read the KB947821 detail - we'll be testing you on it later :)

Once the tool has completed (which could take from 5 minutes to a couple of hours) please upload the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file to your public SkyDrive and post a link.

  • Sorry about the hiatus - I got side-tracked.

Please open an Elevated Command Prompt Window and run the following commands

    ICACLS C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData

    ICACLS C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\Networkservice

    ICACLS C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles

    ICACLS C:\Windows

    ICACLS C:\Windows\System32

    ATTRIB C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\*.* /S

    post the results

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)

    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the CP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.

    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

  • After an update, my laptop got hung up on 15%, I rebooted and Windows 7 says it's not genuine. It won't accept my key to activate. My laptop was purchased from Dell and I upgraded to Pro version via Microsoft store so I know it's 100% legit.

I'm following to see what results from this thread.

    Thursday, September 6, 2012 3:02 AM
  • There are many reasons you may be showing as non-genuine - please start a new thread of your own and post your own MGADiag report.
